London Ritz Casino Suing Property Developer for Roulette Debt
The Ritz Casino in London is suing Nabeel Chowdery, a property developer, over a gambling debt that Chowdery alleged accrued. Chowdery was playing roulette and lost one hundred and sixty Euros within two hours of playing the game. The Ritz is suing because Chowdery still owes the casino for his loss.Chowdery is defending the claim made by the casino by stating the casino failed to act responsibly in his favor. Chowdery paid for sixty thousand in chips using his debit card and then paid for the rest with a Coutts Bank check. The check was filled out for one hundred thousand Euros and it did not clear the bank.
Susan Lewis the lawyer for Chowdery was quoted in the Daily Mail as saying: “We have put in a defense under the 2005 Gambling Act, which requires casinos to behave responsibly. He is also counter-claiming for damages for the Ritz Casino’s negligence arising out of the alleged breaches of these statutory duties.”
Chowdery stated in the paper that his trip to the casino was his first and the Ritz should have told him to go home and come back another day.
