Roulette Addiction Leads Manager to Steal
A manager of a supermarket in Aberdeen was arrested recently after she stole large sums of money to fuel her roulette gambling addiction. Larisa Baxter is addicted to the game of roulette and she stole a total of £112,000 from Lidl’s Langstracht store during a two week period. The funds were stolen in September of last year and yesterday Baxter was sentenced to sixteen months in prison. Baxter is in her fifties and was used to losing up to £4,000 a night at the roulette tables. She took the cash from her store to gamble and then took more to try and win back what she had lost.
The Sheriff had commented that he had heard that Baxter had lost more than £190,000 in a four month period when playing roulette. The money lost was part of the stolen money from the store and money that Baxter had won while playing.
Baxter contacted her attorney last December and he recommended that she tell her employers. She did not tell her employers and they found discrepancies in their accounts so she then decided to confess her guilt.
Now Baxter will have time to think about her crime for many months as she will be in jail for well over a year. Hopefully the time in jail will help her get a handle on her roulette addiction.
